International Biosciences Ancestry Test Results feature in O’Dowd’s Family Tree

DUBLIN, Ireland – June 2013- Ancestry DNA test results provided by International Biosciences used as props in Chris O’Dowd’s Family Tree.

Family Tree is an English TV show in which Irish actor, Chris O’Dowd plays the role of Tom Chadwick, a man who passionately sets out to discover his lineage and family tree, spurred to do so by a rather mysterious box given to him by his aunt. In one episode, Tom, a man who knows little about his roots, has an ancestry DNA test carried out as one means of learning more about his hazy origins.

The test in the episode was provided by International Biosciences or IBDNA. International Biosciences describe this type of test as a reliable, investigative and scientific tool for those wishing to trace their lineage. Elaborating on the science behind the test a company representative states that “Our ancestors have left indelible information on our DNA. An ancestry test runs comparisons between the DNA of the test participant and a database, known as the Focused GeoGenetic Database, which contains extensive genealogical information about various ancestral clans. We look for matches between the DNA of the person tested and the genetic information in our database”. IBDNA’s test results reveal the geographical regions from which one’s forbearers originated as well as the anthropological groups to which they belonged.

The ancestral origins test is a quick and simple test to carry out. The test is done by means of a simple mouth swab rubbed inside the mouth of the test participant. The company provides clients with an easy-to-use self sample collection kit enabling them to collect their own samples.

A company representative notes how the TV Series’ popularity in both the USA and the UK attests to the shift in current trends and the widespread interest people have in discovering their ancestry and lineage. Whilst in the past the notion of lineage and family trees seemed to be the exclusive domain for royalty and aristocracy, it is nowadays an active field of personal research by many who resort to rummaging through public registry records, online genealogy websites, archives and ancestry DNA testing to help them learn who they truly are.

Ancestry testing is one of the services offered by International Biosciences that allows individuals to trace their biogenetic roots, helping them gain insights into their ancient ancestral origins. Having the test featured in Family Tree has not only helped in corporate exposure but having such useful and informative tests featured in TV shows that reach to such a wide audience is educational – it can help people learn about just how much DNA testing can do in this day and age. Much in line with the way in which ancestry testing can help one connect to their past, Tom Chadwick begins to discover who he really is once he begins investigating his roots. As delves deeper into his heritage, he begins to feel a growing sense of individuality and sense of self.
